Snow Much Fun!

Happy Wednesday stampers!

Did you miss me yesterday? I can't believe I forgot to post! This week has been very full - I'm doing lots of catch up and work in the studio, plus school starts for Emma next week and of course, we have all the last minute things to take care of for that.

The saddest thing is that I haven't had any time to stamp this week! I KNOW!!
But at least I have cards to share with you from my Christmas in August class last Saturday.
Here's one of my favorites:

Now, ya'll know that I'm not a cutesy stamper - it just doesn't come naturally to me. But my downline Cathy loaned me this new stamp set for the class and I was able to make it work with my style.
It's really pretty simple. I started with a card base of Early Espresso, cut at 4 1/4" x 8 1/2" and folded to make a square card. You know I love those!
The first layer is Very Vanilla sponged with some Crumb Cake Classic Ink. I then took a 2" x 4" piece of the Letters to Santa Designer Series Paper and tore a small strip off both sides then sponged it with more Crumb Cake Ink. (today is the last day of the great Designer Paper SALE, by the way - Buy 3 Get 1 Free!)

The focal point was fun and easy!

Pulling colors from the Designer Paper, I used a scrap of Riding Hood Red cardstock and punched it with my 2 3/8" Scallop Circle Punch. It's layered with an Early Espresso circle that I cut out with my Big Shot and the Circles #2 Die.
The stamped layer is Very Vanilla. I stamped the little snowman with Basic Black ink, then punched him out with the 1 3/4" Circle Punch. I used Riding Hood Red, Marina Mist, Tangerine Tango, Early Espresso and Sahara Sand Stampin' Write Markers to color him in.

The little snowball accent was stamped on a scrap of Very Vanilla and cut out with Paper Snips. I colored it a bit with Sahara Sand, added some Dazzling Diamonds Glitter and popped it up on a Stampin' Dimensional. It almost looks like he's throwing it up in the air - cool, huh?

The greeting was stamped on more Very Vanilla scrap, then punched out with the Modern Label Punch. I sponged it and popped it up with more dimensionals.

The inside was blank, except for this little accent:

I had to stamp that cute little bird working so hard to roll that snowball! It's colored with markers as well, but otherwise, that's it!

Here's a few of the fantastic products I used to create this card:

#122562 - Snow Much Fun Stamp Set $19.95 clear mount
#122349 - Letters to Santa Designer Series Paper $10.95
(LAST DAY of Buy 3, Get 1 FREE DSP Sale! All DSP $10.95 packs included!)
#118874 - 2 3/8" Scallop Circle Punch $16.95

As always, you can purchase any of these products and all of your Stampin' Up! supplies from my Online Stampin' Store anytime, 24/7.

Thanks for visiting today! Hope you liked the peek ahead into the holiday season! I'll be back tomorrow with the next edition of Simply Stampin' Up! - don't miss it!

Contempo Christmas: Clean and Simple

Good morning Stampers!

How's the weather where you are? You can't turn on the news on any channel here without hearing about Hurricane Irene. Where I live, there are tropical storm warnings, which most likely means nothing more than a nasty rain storm. But I love how the media coverage caused all the grocery shelves to be wiped out yesterday and super long lines at every gas station.

Well, life is going on as normal with us today even if we don't have a loaf of bread because it was all sold out! I'm excited to have a houseful of stampers coming over this morning to make Christmas Cards and this evening, my family is going to the movies to see "The Help". I read the book in 24 hours on vacation and all I can say is WOW! It's one of the best stories I've read in a long time and the book was so well written, I loved the author's voice. If you haven't read it, I highly recommend it.

Anyway, here's another one of the cards we'll be making in class this morning - super clean and simple:

The card base is Whisper White cardstock which I ran through the Big Shot with the Northern Flurries Embossing Folder. The greeting is stamped in Real Red Classic Ink on the lower right corner.

The focal point is a mat of Garden Green cardstock layered with a piece of Whisper White cardstock. I inked up the Christmas Tree stamp with my Garden Green and Real Red markers then stamped it on the cardstock. A Basic Rhinestone jewel was added for the tree topper to add a little bling!
Those layers were adhered together and I tied a 9" piece of 1/8" Real Red Taffeta around the bottom section. Popped up on Stampin' Dimensionals, it finished off this clean and simple card perfectly!

You could easily create many multiples of this card in just a few short hours. I think I'd even like it using all Whisper White cardstock layers. That would really bring out the colorful tree and ribbon.

So, even if you can't be with us at class today, here's a few of the supplies I used to create this card. You can shop in my Online Stampin' Store from the comfort of your home, 24/7.

#120902 - Northern Flurry Embossing Folder $7.95

#120594 - Contempo Christmas Stamp Set $11.95 clear-mount
#119251 - Real Red 1/8" Taffeta Ribbon $5.95 (10 yards)

Thanks for stopping by today - stay safe and dry if you are in the storm's path, you'll be in our thoughts and prayers!

Stamped blessings,
~~Robin

Peace on Earth - Christmas is Coming!

Happy Friday!

Well, it's been an eventful week while we were on vacation! The earthquake really got things "all shook up" here at home. (I'm sorry, I couldn't help myself!) What's really strange is that I felt that shaking all the way down in Myrtle Beach! I was reading on the couch in the condo when all of the sudden, the building started shaking and the walls were moving back and forth. I thought "what the heck?" and yelled at Emma who was upstairs, asking her what in the world she was doing. Isn't it funny how we immediately think our kids are the culprits!? When I realized that even if she was jumping on the bed it didn't recreate the shaking, I thought maybe it was high winds or blasting in the area - who knew?!!
My Mom called and told us about the earthquake -which was centered about 30 miles from her home - and that's when I realized what I'd felt. I think I'm really glad that we weren't here - that little bit of shaking was too weird and I'm not anxious to repeat it anytime soon. Fortunately, our home and my Mom's were just fine, everything safe and secure.

So now we are looking at that hurricane headed up the coast - I'm not getting too excited about it to be honest. Where I live, I'm far enough out of the projected path that it's going to be mostly a rain event, so life is going on as normal. We may take down the cover on our gazebo in case their are some wind gusts, but that's about all I expect here. Kinda like Isabel a few years back. For all my friends and family in the coastal areas though, I'm keeping you in my prayers!

We did have a nice getaway at the beach, although Mark and I have determined that apparently we are not allowed to go away completely. I won't go into it, but our cell phones and e-mail were buzzing with new drama and sadly, it's stuff we couldn't ignore. Sigh. At least the hours we spent on the beach and in the ocean helped to drain away some of the stress. I could honestly sit there all day, listening to the waves and feeling that breeze - what a wonderful thought right now!

It's kinda hard to segue into Christmas while I'm dreaming about the beach, but that's EXACTLY where I'm headed with this post! I have my first Christmas card class of the season tomorrow morning and and it's beginning to look a lot like it in the studio! Here's one of the cards we'll be doing tomorrow:

This card was a last minute addition to our class line up for tomorrow. I'd seen this card HERE by Katherine Elliot on the demo only Stampin' Connection site while we were gone and LOVED how she combined the Merry and Type stamp set with The Open Sea. You know that The Open Sea is retiring in just 6 short days and it's been one of my favorite stamp sets this season. I'm so happy that it works beautifully with this greeting from Merry and Type.
As you can see if you checked out Katherine's card, I used her basic layout, and of course the stamp combo, but I've really kind of done my own thing with this card.

I used Sahara Sand for my neutral, using it for the card base, the top layer and for stamping the globe image. Sahara Sand is a great color and I think it's often overlooked - I know I'm guilty!

The holly image is from one of my favorites from last Christmas - Bells and Boughs. I'm so glad this stamp set made the new Idea Book and Catalog! I did a little happy dance on that one!
Here, I've stamped it in Always Artichoke, just on the top section.
The Peace on Earth greeting from Merry and Type is also in Always Artichoke, stamped on the bottom right corner. You're going to see a lot of that stamp set this upcoming season, just sayin'!

Here's a close up of the layers:

I used Cherry Cobbler cardstock under the Sahara Sand layer and a little sneak peek of the new Quilted Cherry Cobbler ribbon that's coming up in the Holiday Mini on September 1st! You're going to love that ribbon - it's just fabulous!
Those layers were popped up on Stampin' Dimensionals and adhered to the card front.

I used my 2 1/2" Circle Punch for the Always Artichoke cardstock circle, then stamped my globe image from The Open Sea with Cherry Cobbler on Sahara Sand cardstock. Instead of cutting it out, I chose to tear around it, giving it a little texture against the clean cut layers.

So, there you have it - a pretty clean and simple Christmas Card. Just the thing to get us started this year. Don't you wish you were coming to class tomorrow? I've got 16 ladies coming to stamp with me and that makes my heart happy! I'll show you some of the other 5 cards we are making over the coming days, so at least you can see how to recreate them at home.

Here's a few of the products I used to make today's card:#122552 - Merry and Type Stamp Set $18.95 clear-mount
#123032 - The Open Sea Stamp Set $18.95 clear-mount
(retiring in 6 DAYS!)

#121142 - Bells and Boughs Stamp Set $14.95 clear-mount
#120906 - 2 1/2" Circle Punch $16.95

All of these products and more can be ordered in my Online Stampin' Store, 24/7!
Thanks so much for stopping by today - have a great weekend wherever you are, and be safe if you are in one of the storm areas!

Stamped blessings,
~~Robin

Swap Showcase #4

Happy Thursday Stampers!

I know, there's no Simply Stampin' Up! feature today, but it will return next week, I promise!
This week, through today, I'll be showcasing some of my very favorite Swap cards from Convention. I am currently on vacation in Myrtle Beach and I thought it would be a great time to share some of the fabulous artwork and inspiration I was lucky enough to receive from some dear friends and some new ones too! I'll be back to regular posting on Friday, but for now - I'm unplugged! :)

ALL of these cards were made by other artists - NONE of them were created by me. I've placed my watermark on each photo to protect the artists work and listed them individually beneath each card.

Today's showcase takes us through the upcoming holidays starting with Thanksgiving.

Here's a beautiful but very clean and simple card using the popular Day of Gratitude stamp set that returned to us from last year's Holiday Mini. I know it was a favorite!

Card by Diana Eichfeld

Next here's a fun Christmas card that used the new Pennant Parade Stamp Set for the Christmas Tree. Isn't that a great idea?

Card by Susie Wood

One of my favorite new Christmas stamp sets in the catalog this year is Beautiful Season. SU! retired A Cardinal Christmas (another favorite) but gave us this gorgeous set in it's place. I just love all the details on this card!

Card by Debi Pippin

So many of you just love snowmen and this new stamp set, Snow Much Fun, was a hit as soon as it became available! It's great for a Christmas card or as you'll see below, a cute Winter themed card as well.

Card by Shelly Raines

I love all the blue tones in this card and the Northern Frost Embossed background works perfectly with this snowman!

Card by Barbara Welch

And then we have Valentine's Day - I know, it's hard to think of that when it's so far away, but we all know it's coming! I love all the elements and details on this card. And the best part is that it doesn't have to be Valentines Day at all!

Card by Carrie Gaskin

Well, it's been a fun four days of my Swap Showcase. I'll be back with a card of my OWN creation tomorrow, I promise! So be sure to stop back by!

~~Robin

Swap Showcase #3

We've made it to Wednesday - for all you stampers that means you are one day closer to being able to stamp all day! Yay! For me, it means my vacation is almost over. Boo!

This week, through Thursday, I'm showcasing some of my very favorite Swap cards from Convention.

Today's selections are some fabulous random cards - no particular occasion, but they could be used for many things and many different people.

Of course the shabby chic look of this one jumped out at me right away - it's just up my alley! Gorgeous! I love the use of the new oval Designer Frame Embossing Folder here:

Card by Alissa Weaver

This card showcases that same frame in a completely different way and I love how it's used to highlight the stamped collage images. They are from the new Established Elegance stamp set and yes, you know I own it already! :) One of my dear friends gave this to me and I think it's one of those frameable ones! Love you too Di!

Card by Diana Gibbs

There's a gorgeous new Hostess stamp set called Faith in Nature and I need to own it! Problem is, now that we can spend our generous Hostess Dollars any way our little hearts desire, I keep bumping it off my list for practical things like cardstock. Crazy, I know!
I love how this artist used pastels to color the image and the simple, crimped strip on the side was the perfect accent.

Card by Unknown Artist (no name on the back!)

We all know that masculine cards are hard for some of us to dream up. This one is fantastic! Clean, simple and rugged, it showcases the new Need for Speed stamp set.

Card by Jenn Turoff

Here's a simple beauty that takes a few easy elements and comes together wonderfully for a lovely, free-spirited card. I love this layout! It uses the new My Friend stamp set, which is one of my personal favorites from the new catalog!

Card by Sheila Cooper

So, that's it for today! I have more for you tomorrow, so come on back!

Swap Showcase #2

Howdy stampers!
Did you enjoy yesterday's Swap cards? There are some very talented stampers in Stampin' Up! I'm so blessed to know many of them!

This week, through Thursday, I'm showcasing some of my very favorite Swap cards from Convention. I am currently on vacation in Myrtle Beach and I thought it would be a great time to share some of the fabulous artwork and inspiration I was lucky enough to receive from some dear friends and some new ones too! ALL of these cards were made by other artists - NONE of them were created by me. I've placed my watermark on each photo to protect the artists work and listed them individually beneath each card.

These cards today really said SUMMER to me in a variety of ways. Some of them use stamps from the Summer Mini Catalog that's ends on August 31st so be sure to check them out closely and make sure you've got those products before they are gone!

Love the unique fold and design of this card! She combined the new Delicate Doilies stamp set with the Swirls and Curls Verses Hostess stamp set in the Summer Mini. Beautiful color combo too!

Card by Laura Barto

This artist combined the Bold Blossom stamp set with the Blossom Bouquet Triple Layer Punch and the Happy Greetings stamp set. Both of the stamp sets are going bye-bye on the 31st, but the punch is in the new big Catalog! Check out the layers on her greeting - fabulous!

Card by Marie Fieberg

This lovely card uses our pink tones so well - I love how elegant everything looks here. The Fabulous Florets stamp set looks entirely different in this setting. I love the punched out frame too! Another dear friend gave me this card and honestly, I could have showcased all of the cards she gave me, they were all gorgeous!

Card by Sharon Cline

And what's Summer without ice cream? This card is the perfect combination of the new Just Add Cake Designer Paper (which is part of the Buy 3, Get 1 Free sale this month) and the new Pennant Parade stamp set! Love that she made it an ice cream cone! Know what the ice cream is? The icing from the Cupcake Builder Punch! Oh yeah!~ Another great card from a dear friend. I told you I knew some talented people! :)

Card by Selene Kempton

Ok, Summer is obviously in full swing around here - be sure to stop back tomorrow for some more fantastic swap cards. All Occasions are up next!

Headed for the 'Open Sea'!

Not to rub it in or anything, but did I tell you that we are headed for the beach this afternoon?
:)
Yep, as soon as Emma is done with her skating exhibition, we are 'southbound and down"!! We are finally getting a trip together as a family this summer and we are just a little excited about it. This summer has been a crazy ride for us and we've been going in a bazillion different directions. So the next 6 days are going to be wonderful to slow down and unplug.

One of my favorite places to do that is the beach. Any beach. I have some favorites, but there's just something wonderful about heading down to the water. I love feeling the sand between my toes, smelling the salt air, and feeling the special ocean breeze that's like no other that just pushes all my stress away. So yes, get me to the beach and I'll come home a changed woman!

I definitely had the ocean in mind when I created this card. It's one that we did in my Just Cards classes this month and it has a little bit of everything on it!

The card base is Not Quite Navy and I've layered it with a piece of the Nautical Expedition Designer Series Paper. I ran it through my Big Shot with the new Houndstooth embossing folder then used my Sanding Block to rough it up and reveal a little of the white core of that paper. Next, I used my Stamping Sponge and rubbed a little bit of Early Espresso Classic Ink on it.
And that's just the Designer Paper Layer!

So, let's move on to the pennant.
I used my new Perfect Pennants Big Shot Die and cut out the large pennant with Basic Gray cardstock. Next I stamped it with the ship's manifest stamp from The Open Sea stamp set. (That set retires on August 31st and it's perfect for masculine cards - please don't forget to add it to your stampin' tool box!)
Once I stamped the image, I sponged it a bit with some Early Espresso ink and then used my Bone Folder to curl it so it looks like it's waving in the breeze.

My Crop-A-Dile tool was perfect for adding the holes evenly across the top so I could thread my Cherry Cobbler Baker's Twine through it. Here, take a look:

A couple of sailorish knots completed that element.
For the next embellishments, I took another piece of the Nautical Expedition DSP and cut it out with one of the circles on the Perfect Pennants Die. More Early Espresso ink on that and next came the circle element. I stamped the anchor image on a piece of Whisper White cardstock and punched it out with the 1 3/4" Circle Punch. A little more sponging and I secured them together with a small safety pin from the Vintage Trinkets.
All of those layers were added to the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals.

The banner was cut out with the Petal Cone Die and then stamped with a greeting from the Perfect Words Hostess stamp set. I used Not Quite Navy ink for that stamping. A little more Early Espresso for the sponging and I added it to the card front with more dimensionals.

Whew! You tired yet?
No? Good, because we have the inside yet:

But it's pretty simple. Just a bit of stamping in the lower corner, yes, some more sponging and it's ready to go!

Just like me! Ready to GO!! LOL!

So, here's a few things I used on my card today:
#123032 - The Open Sea Stamp Set $18.95 Clear Mount
#123126 - Perfect Pennants Die $32.95

#122343 - Nautical Expedition Designer Series Paper $10.95 (12 sheets)
Don't Forget - Buy 3, Get 1 Free on ALL Designer Paper priced at $10.95!
Through August 31st!

All of these items and more can be purchased through my Online Stampin' Store at your convenience, 24/7!

Thanks for stopping by today! Be sure to check back tomorrow - I have a fun class announcement to share, even though I'll be laying on the beach!!
And lots of card ideas to share next week - my blog isn't on vacation, only me!

Simply Stampin' Up! - Edition 10

Well stampers, it's Thursday again!
And here at Trinity Designs, that means it's time for Simply Stampin' Up!. This is my weekly feature that transforms a published, NON-SU! project into an ALL SU! project! Many of you have written me and told me that you are loving this series, so I plan to continue on with it. Thanks for all your sweet comments~!
Just a quick note - I'll be on vacation next week, so this feature will be taking a week off, but I'll be back the next week with a fun, newly transformed project just for you.
Be sure to keep visiting next week though, I'll be showcasing some of my favorite swaps from Convention while I'm gone. I got some FABULOUS cards and I want to share them!

Now, how about a peek at this week's Simply Stampin' Up! project? Here ya' go!

Now, how fun is that?!!
When Stampin' Up! brought out the Many Mustaches A La Carte stamp, my first thought was, "Really? What do I do with THAT?" But I knew that the mustache icon was very hot with teens right now and of course the huge circus theme trends in the paper crafting industry. Stampin' Up! proves once again that they really are right at the forefront of the popular trends. Love it!

Here's my version of the card next to the magazine card:

I just thought it was adorable and it was a super-easy project to recreate! So, let's get started!

Layer 1 - Cut a piece of Tempting Turquoise cardstock at 4 1/4" x 11". Score at 5 1/2" and fold.

Layer 2 - Cut a piece of Real Red cardstock at 3 7/8" x 5 1/8".

Layer 3 - Cut a piece of Whisper White cardstock at 3 3/4" x 5".

Using the Basic Black Classic Ink Pad, ink up just the top mustache on the Many Mustaches stamp (There are four mustaches to choose from!) and stamp it about 1/2 way down on the Whisper White cardstock.

**TD Tip: - If you are concerned with getting ink on the rest of the stamp, you can take a sticky note and cover the rest of the stamp rubber while you are inking your mustache of choice. The result is a clean stamp with only the portion you want inked, inked! Just peel off the sticky note(s) before stamping. This is a different way of Omitting part of an image and it works so well.

Next, take the Happy Birthday greeting from the Bring on the Cake stamp set and ink it up with Basic Black Classic ink as well. Stamp it just below the mustache. (Note: my Basic Black ink pad is VERY juicy - a good problem to have to be sure, but be sure to let your black stamped images dry completely before finishing the card assembly. Ask me how I know......)

After completing the basic stamping, I adhered my Whisper White layer to my Real Red layer with SNAIL Adhesive.

Next, I took out my Mat Pack and Paper Piercing Tool, and using the piercing guide, added three holes under the stamped greeting. I normally skip a hole to leave some space between the brads I intend to use, but not here since I was mimicing the magazine card. I did use the small, wide set holes in the piercing guide.
After adding the holes, I filled them with three Gold Brads.

Let's take a look at the party hat embellishment:

I used my Pennant Parade stamp set and chose the most solid image in the set. It was inked up with Real Red Classic Ink and stamped on a scrap of Whisper White cardstock. Taking out my Petite Pennants Builder Punch, I punched it out and set it aside.

To get the hat band, I took out my NEW Stocking Punch that is coming out in the Holiday Mini on September 1st! I punched out a stocking top from Tempting Turquoise cardstock and trimmed it off a little bit to make it more narrow. Worked like a charm!
After glueing the hat to the band with a bit of Tombow Adhesive, I added a Stampin' Dimensional to the back and adhered it just above the mustache at a jaunty angle - just like the magazine project! Another Gold Brad was added to the top of the hat, and VOILA!, the card was done!

Now, wasn't that easy?
You'll notice that I chose a generic birthday greeting for my card - this way it could be given to anyone, male or female - or even the special teen in your life!

Here's a few of the products I used on today's project:

#122917 - Many Mustaches $9.95

#121958 - Bring on the Cake Stamp Set $27.95 Clear Mount
#105826 - Mat Pack $9.95
#104337 - Gold Brads (200 pack) $6.95
#122742 - Pennant Parade Stamp Set $$16.95 Clear Mount
#122361 - Petite Pennants Builder Punch $16.95

All of the products I used today can be purchased from my Online Stampin' Store. Each order placed with me there gets you a beautiful hand-stamped THANK YOU card that you can use again!

Have a great Thursday everyone!
It's T minus 36 hours until vacation here, so I'm scrambling today, but I'll still be back tomorrow with a new project for you!

Stamped blessings,
~~Robin
